Gym Program Set Ups

Many people are hesitant to start a gym program because of concerns over current or previous injury or health problems. The reality for many people in this situation is that a professionally set-up gym program can often be highly beneficial and offer many different types of exercise to rehabilitate injury problems (or simply exercise without causing aggravation). With use of the ReCreation Fitness Centre, our physiotherapists can assess you and then set you up with an appropriate gym program (physically showing you and practising your program in the gym). This service would initially be provided over two half hour consultations and may have more follow up session(s) if required or requested by the client. For many people, having a trained health professional provide this service is an attractive alternative to using a fitness instructor or “going it alone”. Health insurance or Medicare rebates can apply for people with extras cover or an Enhanced Primary Care referral from their GP.

Dry Needling

Dry needling involves the use of acupuncture needles for stimulation of healing of slow healing areas (such as tendon problems) or for relieving pain and tightness caused by muscular trigger points (painful taut bands of muscle in areas where there has been injury, overuse or adverse postural stresses). Parkmore Physiotherapy’s Katie Punter has undertaken extra training in the use of dry needling as part of physiotherapy treatment and can provide this service as part of your consultation (often in conjunction with other treatment methods such as massage, joint mobilisation and exercises).

X-ray and MRI referrals

Our physiotherapists are able to refer you for x-rays where it is appropriate for your musculoskeletal condition. Patients attending for x-rays at South Eastern Hospital with our referral are bulk-billed. MRI referrals will also be provided by our physiotherapists when it is the appropriate investigation. MRI scans will cost between $195 to $295 depending on the radiology practice you choose for your scans. X-rays can usually be performed on the same day. MRI scans can usually be performed within 2-4 working days. Our physiotherapists will discuss the results of your scans with you and as always, refer you to other health professionals eg. Surgeons, sports physicians etc. if necessary. Ultrasound and CT scans require medical referral to be able to obtain the appropriate rebate.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

These assessments are undertaken to assess the physical fitness of employees or potential employees for particular work roles. The evaluation includes verbal assessment, movement/strength assessment and assessment of functional tasks relevant to the particular work role. A report is provided to the employer. The physiotherapy FCE can be combined with a medical assessment of other relevant measures such as hearing/vision etc if necessary. If you are an employer and interested in utilising Functional Capacity Evaluations please contact us.
